Shepperton is a suburban town in the borough of Spelthorne within the county of Surrey, England. 15 miles south west of Charing Cross, London and bounded by the Thames to the south and much of the east. It is bisected by the M3 in the northwest. Shepperton is mentioned in the Domesday Book, where it was noted as an agricultural village.

The River Thames was important from late 13th century for transport and carried barley, wheat, peas and other root vegetables to the London markets. Later timber, bricks and other building materials as well as gunpowder would be transported this way.

Shepperton has a traditional high street, shorter than nearby Ashford, with a village hall, library, bank, shops, public house, several cafes and a railway station.

Shepperton Studios opened in 1932 as Sound Film Producing & Recording Studios, now part of Pinewood Studios Group since 2001. Shepperton has 15 stages, ranging in size from 3,000 square feet to 30,000 square feet; five of these are equipped with interior tanks for underwater filming. A mixture of TV and motion picture filming has taken place on the lot, including box office successes and independent films.

Shepperton railway station is a terminus for the main destinations of London, Kingston upon Thames. Opened in 1864 and was electrified in 1916. Service on the line is half-hourly to London Waterloo via Kingston, Monday to Friday.

Access by road is via the A308, A244, B376 and the B375. the M3 motorway runs through Shepperton itself and the London Orbital, or M25 is to the West.

Local Events

The Shepperton Village fair is held annually within the village and has been running since 1973. The fair is held close to the Thames on Manor Park, the Fair begins with a large procession through the High Street, and is followed by arena displays, fairground rides, stalls, competitions, a Marquee & the Great Nauticalia Raft Race. The fair is held on the second Saturday of every June. The fair promotes local charities, organisations and businesses.

On both sides of the M3 there are recreation grounds- Shepperton Green and Shepperton/Lower Halliford. The town has popular cycling routes through it to Windsor, Hampton Court Palace and to Richmond. Sunbury Golf Club is north of the station within the historic parish of Sunbury. There is also the Desborough sailing club with dinghy basin, private inlet and secluded reach of the River Thames.
